Manchester United manager David Moyes has claimed his former club Everton are holding back the careers of his transfer targets Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.
The ex-Toffees boss says that if he was still in charge at Goodison Park he would have sold the pair to predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.
Asked if he had sympathy for Roberto Martinez having been in a similar situation when Manchester City were attempting to sign Joleon Lescott, Moyes said: “I definitely do but I also know that if I’d been Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, I’d have found it very difficult to keep them because I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players.”
The Scot reiterated that his long spell in charge at Everton meant he knew the squad inside out and knows their value.
He added: “I signed every player at Everton, so I know a lot about them. They are a great club and they are both excellent players.”
