Man Utd prepare joint-bid for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines
Manchester United are expected to make a formal double bid to Everton for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.
Manager David Moyes’ interest in his two former players has been well documented. As we reported yesterday, he is stepping up his efforts to sign Fellaini after accepting that Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas is probably not going to move to Old Trafford.
Now the Daily Mail reports that United will attempt to tie-up deals for both Fellaini and Baines in one swoop. The champions already had a £12m bid for England left-back Baines rejected earlier this summer.
Fellaini has a release clause of £23.5m for Champions League clubs. United will be hoping to bring both players to the club for around the £35m, though the Toffees may still drive a harder bargain for Baines.
Moyes has already started an indirect sales pitch to his former charges.
Speaking of his own experience, he said: “Everton are a great club and I was proud to manage them. But I can’t deny Manchester United is on another level.
“Let’s be honest, it would be a step up from just about any club in the world.”
