Real Madrid to bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez next week
Real Madrid are already turning one eye in Luis Suarez’s direction now they believe their move for Gareth Bale is in the bag.
Once their world transfer record signing of the Tottenham star is completed, the Spanish giants will turn their attention to Suarez.
Real were widely expected to be the Uruguayan star’s destination the summer, but they have played it cool until this point. With the Bale deal nearing completion they are ready to look elsewhere, according to the Daily Star.
There are two main reasons for the sudden urgency.
The first is that Real risk losing 20-year-old Alvaro Morato – effectively their second-choice striker if you consider Cristiano Ronaldo to be more of a winger – to Spurs as part of the Bale transfer.
The second is that Ronaldo is stalling on a new deal and is likely to become the subject of increased interest from Manchester United as the transfer window draws to a close. The Bernabeu hierarchy believe that landing both Bale and Suarez would soften the blow of losing their Portuguese star, should they decide to cash-in at this stage.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, Real don’t propose to bid more for Suarez than the £40m already offered by Arsenal. The La Liga runners-up will hope that taking Suarez out of the Premier League’s Champions League qualification equation for the new season will be enough to convince the Reds to sell to them.
