Tottenham create new ‘Turfies’ computer game to attract new fans – and causes another Gareth Bale story
In the battle for the next generation of football fans, clubs are taking on new initiatives that could loosely be filed under the banner of propaganda.
Spurs are the latest to try an inventive new tactic, creating a range of computer game characters called the ‘Turfies’. They are the first club in the world to create a digital gaming platform for fans.
The idea is for children to create their own Turfy, choosing the appearance of the little creature, before training up the creature through a series of games and activities.
Thankfully, Ledley King is here to talk us through the new game:
“I think it’s a great way for kids to interact with their favourite club, and what’s great about it is it’s not just online but comes out into the real world, and kids can potentially get to meet their idols and take part in the club that they love.”
The game also serves a dual-purpose for Spurs, who were clearly keen to replace their Twitter background given the Gareth Bale shenanigans over his transfer. Now you see him, now you don’t.
