Video: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tells his players not to forget to play against Fenerbahce
Arsene Wenger has reminded his Arsenal squad that they need to play football against Fenerbahce in this evening’s Champions League qualifier.
The Gunners boss wants to see commitment from his players in Turkey but doesn’t want them to forget to play their usual game amid what is likely to be a hostile atmosphere.
He made it clear that controlling possession will be key to getting a result in Istanbul.
He said: “We have experience of the competition at that level, but every game is different.
“What that kind of game demands is to turn up on the night, with a top level of commitment and performance as well to play, not forget to.
“We want to have the ball and in football when you have the ball you can sometimes lose and for example on Saturday [against Aston Villa] we had a lot of the ball and we lost. But many, many games you will win more than you lose and that’s our target.”
Wenger also praised the quality of Fenerbahce’s squad, including their collection of former Premier League players.
He added: “Fenerbahce is very experienced team with quality players. We know them very well because some them have played in England, some of them have played in France.
“They have (Dirk) Kuyt, (Raul) Meireles, (Joseph) Yobo. They played in England. (Moussa) Sow has played in France. And, we know (Bruno) Alves because we have played against him. So we know basically all the players but it’s a very experienced team with quality.”
