Video: Southampton striker Rickie Lambert on scoring England’s winner against Scotland
Rickie Lambert officially became the world’s most famous former beetroot packer when he scored England’s winner against Scotland with his first touch in international footballer.
The Southampton striker headed in a Leighton Baines corner to secure victory for Roy Hodgson’s side.
After the match, it still hadn’t hit him.
He said: “It hasn’t sunk in. I don’t know when it’s going to sink in. I can’t explain my emotions at the minute.”
On his reception at Wembley, Lambert added: “I say it means so much, and it does, but I don’t think that’s doing it justice.
“I’ve been waiting all my life for this moment and for it to have happened the way it happened, I couldn’t have wished for it to have gone any better.”
