Arsenal bid £42.5m for Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil
Arsenal have launched a bid for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil, Sky Sports News is reporting.
The Gunners are said to be in “advanced talks” with the 24-year-old. They are hoping to take advantage of Gareth Bale’s move to the Bernabeu from north London rivals Spurs.
Selling Ozil would allow Real to recoup almost half of Bale’s fee immediately. And it would allow the Germany international to seek first-team football that is likely to be increasingly limited after the world transfer record arrival of Bale.
Reports initially suggested that Manchester United would battle Arsenal for Ozil’s signature, but it now seems that the champions will not be pursuing the former Schalke and Werder Bremen man.
