Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tells Serge Gnabry to take his big chance
Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal youngster to take advantage of the “fantastic opportunity” to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Injuries to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have presented the 18-year-old with the chance to get some game-time under his belt.
The German youngster featured in last weekend’s victory against Stoke, and Wenger wants to see him continue to improve.
He told the club’s official website: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for him.
“He can play right or left or even behind the striker. He can even play as a striker. I believe against Stoke what I liked in his game is that he grew through the game, he became better and better.
“He was a bit timid in the first half but in the second half he made some good interceptions, some good passes and some good first touches that I liked.”
Describing Gnabry’s ability, he added: “He has the quality to be creative because he can dribble, he can run with the ball, he can be a good passer and he is a great finisher.
“On that front, once the confidence level [rises] he will be alright. His physical qualities, his technical qualities are at the requested level.”
And he thinks the former Stuttgart trainee can defy his tender years to cope with the demands of top-flight English football.
He said: “It’s very seldom that an 18-year-old boy can compete physically in the Premier League.”
