Atletico Madrid target Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho
Liverpool face a battle to keep hold of playmaker Philippe Coutinho amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
If they are still in Champions League contention come the January transfer window, the Spanish side will reportedly bid for the little Brazilian.
Brendan Rodgers side’s lack of European football means Coutinho would be eligible to play in the Champions League, which is why he is such a tempting target for Atletico.
The 21-year-old has made no secret of his desire to force his way into Brazil’s World Cup squad, and the offer of Champions League football could be viewed as a good stepping stone to achieving that.
Atletico had previously expressed an interest in Coutinho in the summer, but their advances were rejected by the Reds.
But they will revive that interest in January to test Liverpool’s resolve, according to reports in today’s Sunday People.
