Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho ‘cried’ upon learning that David Moyes had got Man Utd job
Jose Mourinho cried when he discovered that he would not be replacing Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager, according to a book due to be published in Spain tomorrow.
Prepárense Para Perder (Prepare To Lose), written by journalist Diego Torres, claims that Mourinho thought he was nailed-on to be Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford.
His deferential behaviour towards Ferguson and all things United during his time at Real Madrid has not gone unnoticed. And Torres claims that he was certain the job was his.
The book claims:
“Mourinho, fed by his devoted agent [Jorge Mendes] believed that Ferguson, as well as an ally, was his friend and Godfather. He was convinced that they enjoyed a friendship of genuine trust. He thought that his fabulous collection of titles, two European Cups, seven League Cups and four in four different countries, constituted an endorsement no other candidate had. When he learnt he had chosen Moyes, Mou was incredulous. He screamed: ‘But he’s won nothing!'”
It is also suggested that when the rumours first broke that then Everton manager Moyes was set to be appointed, Mourinho had his agent
Torres writes: “In the morning Mendes called to liaise with United urgently. Until the deal was done, he wanted his agent to pressure the English club in an attempt to block any operation. It was an act of desperation.”
