Everton plot to spend Fellaini and Baines cash on Wigan’s James McCarthy and Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand
Everton seem likely to sell Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines to Manchester United before tomorrow’s transfer deadline – and they are lining up replacements.
According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, the Toffees will do business if the champions return with a joint-bid around the £45m mark.
They are planning a £7m bid for Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand as a direct replacement for Baines, while Wigan midfielder James McCarthy would plug the Fellaini-shaped hole in Roberto Martinez’s midfield if he can convince his old club to sell for around £13m.
Martinez is also preparing to invest some of the cash in Bruno Martins Indi, a highly-rated defender from Dutch side Feyenoord. The 21-year-old, a centre-back who can deputise at left-back, would cost around £10m.
