Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho out for six weeks
Table-topping Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news that Philippe Coutinho will be out of action for six weeks.
The Brazilian playmaker will be out of action until the end of October due to a shoulder injury he sustained during Monday’s 2-2 draw at Swansea.
The 21-year-old will have to undergo surgery on the problem.
A Liverpool statement said: “Liverpool have confirmed Philippe Coutinho will undergo a procedure on the shoulder injury he sustained in Monday evening’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City.
“The Brazilian was forced from the field during the second half of the contest at the Liberty Stadium following a challenge with Ashley Williams.
“After being assessed by the Reds medical staff, it’s been decided that Coutinho will now have surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder.”
The blow of Coutinho’s absence will be softened slightly by the return of Luis Suarez from his suspension.
