Man City left-back Gael Clichy says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is “amazing”
Gael Clichy has praised “amazing” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as the most influential manager of his career.
The France star went as far as to say Wenger taught him how to play football.
Asked who was his most important coach, the Manchester City left-back said: “Without a doubt it would have to be Arsene Wenger. My dad as well, as he taught me from a young age, but on a professional level, its Arsène Wenger.
“That’s why I will always respect him, because of what he did, not just for me but for a lot of young players that went through the Arsenal academy and went on to play with the first team and are now playing for a different team. He’s just been amazing.
“He’s the one that taught me how to play football and I am probably the player I am today is because of him, so I give him a lot of credit and I wish him all the best because he deserves it.”
The 28-year-old also said it was hard to comment on Manuel Pellegrini’s abilities after such a short spell working with him, but he says the City squad have confidence in their new boss.
He said: “It’s difficult to say as we’ve only been with him for two months and have only played two official game, but from what we know from his work at Villarreal, Real Madrid and Malaga he’s just amazing and has had a lot of good results.
“We’re full of confidence in him, he’s really smart and you can tell he’s thinking through all the sessions we’ve been doing in training.
“As a player it’s enjoyable to play his way and as we’ve already seen if everything clicks then we can be really good so hopefully we can have a great season.”
