Manchester United to scout Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera ahead of new bid
Manchester United are planning to step-up their scouting of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera with a view to launching a new attempt to sign him in January.
The champions bid €30m for the 24-year-old at the end of the summer transfer window.
It was also reported that they tried to activate his €35m buy-out clause on transfer deadline day, but the move descended into farce when it became clear that there wasn’t enough time to get the deal done and United claimed that a group of impostors were trying to complete the transfer on their behalf.
All that last-gasp stuff isn’t really David Moyes’ style, so he is no taking his time to conduct a proper scouting mission on the Basque star ahead of a possible move when the transfer window reopens.
The Daily Telegraph claims that United plan to watch Herrera in action against Granada next week. It is not clear if the player whether any United scouts were present for the game against Real Betis yesterday evening.
