Steven Gerrard says the international stage was set for Liverpool team-mate Daniel Sturridge
England captain Steven Gerrard says the injury to his Liverpool team-mate Daniel Sturridge is “a shame” because he had the chance to shine in international football in tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
Sturridge, already a matchwinner for the Reds three times this season, had to pull out the Moldova game through injury.
He will be assessed again ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Ukraine, but his skipper for club and country is hoping he will be fit to bring his Liverpool form to the national team.
Gerrard said: “It is a shame for Daniel.
“The stage is set for him to come and shine on the international stage so fingers crossed he will be back for Tuesday because he certainly makes England stronger.”
