Video: David Moyes congratulates Wayne Rooney on his 200th Man Utd goal
Manchester United manager David Moyes has praised Wayne Rooney for becoming just the fourth player in the club’s history to score 200 goals.
Rooney’s two goals against Bayer Leverkusen ensured he followed in the footsteps of Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley in becoming a double-centurion.
Moyes said: “I’m not a historian for Manchester United but I think there’s only four people to do it, four goalscorers, and I remember coming in and saying he’s got a real chance to be one of the all-time leading goalscorers at this club and, I tell you what, if he keeps playing like he did tonight he’ll get there. He was very very good.”
Which brings us to an entirely different point: why does Moyes always refer to things he said when he took over at United as if he is fondly remembering a conversation from 25 years ago?
