Video: Liverpool boss Rodgers looking forward to Suarez ‘magic’
Brendan Rodgers said he was looking forward to having Luis Suarez back from his 10-match ban after Liverpool slipped to a 0-1 home defeat to Southampton.
The Reds boss said the returning Uruguayan would add some “magic” to his “lethargic” side.
He said: “We never got going from the off. It was a bit lethargic and technically we were short today. It was a very disappointing and result for us.
“I think that is the big positive from today – the fact that [Suarez] is back now that the ban has finished. And he is available now from next week.
“I can’t underestimate how well the players have done. It is worth mentioning that. Since the turn of the year, it is our first defeat since March really, and funnily enough against Southampton. We have had two poor performances against them. It has cost us. In that period, the team have been brilliant.
“Just today was one of those days when we were right off it and sometimes in games you need players like him to give you magic and players can make the difference. It is going to be great to have him back. And it will be a real boost to have him from Wednesday onwards and he will make a big difference for us.
“He is in good condition. He has been playing games. Both behind closed doors and organised games for him.
“He has been doing a lot of specific work with the conditioning team. He is obviously not going to be 100 per cent coming into these sort of games, cup games, they are obviously a greater intensity.
“But he is a worker and a fighter and his conditioning is in a good place. He just needs to get games in order to bring him right up to full speed.”
