Chelsea striker Fernando Torres out for three weeks
Chelsea have confirmed that striker Fernando Torres will be out of action for three weeks with a knee injury.
The Spaniard picked up the injury during Tuesday evening’s Champions League win over Steaua Bucharest.
A club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm Fernando Torres suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee in the Champions League group game at Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday evening.
“The 29-year-old is expected to be out for approximately three weeks.”
While it is a disappointment for the Blues given how sharp he looked during last weekend’s draw against Tottenham, the injury could scarcely have come at a better time. With Torres already serving a one-match ban for his red card at Spurs and the international break looming, the Spaniard is unlikely to miss too many games.
