Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea target Goncalo Guedes set to sign new Benfica deal
Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes – dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo – is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract.
The 18-year-old, who is wanted by a host of clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan, is now eligible to sign a longer term contract after celebrating his birthday yesterday.
His various suitors were hoping to nip in to buy him on the cheap, but reports in his homeland suggest that a new deal is imminent.
O Jogo claims Guedes will now sign a five-year contract that had already been agreed but could not be signed until now. The extension will keep him at Estadio da Luz until 2019 and also introduce a £40m release clause.
Guedes’ agent Paulo Rodrigues had effectively already signed off on the terms but Benfica will be happier once the wonderkid has put pen to paper officially.
They are likely to encourage that to happen as soon as possible to scare off the interested parties, with Arsenal and Bayern thought to have been the front-runners.
