Man City have Jose Maria Gimenez bid rejected
Atletico Madrid have rejected a £17.3m bid from Manchester City for centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, according to reports in Spain.
The 19-year-old is considered one of Europe’s finest young centre-halves and City apparently lodged an offer in an attempt to bring him to the Etihad.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side continue to search for a reliable, long-term central defensive partner for captain Vincent Kompany and Gimenez is the latest candidate.
City’s bid was made 11 days ago, claims Spanish newspaper AS.
But the young Uruguay international has begun to make headway in his efforts to force his way into Atletico coach Diego Simeone’s plans in recent weeks and has looked impressive.
La Liga’s reigning champions are said to have rejected the approach from the Premier League champions, who are keen to land Gimenez in the January transfer window.
