Video: Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson prepares for the stress of the armband
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has been captaining the side in recent weeks due to the injury to skipper Steven Gerrard.
Wearing the Liverpool armband brings with it all sorts of complications and stresses – as Henderson found out last week when he ended up in an on-pitch squabble with striker Mario Balotelli over who should take a late penalty against Turkish side Besiktas in the Europa League last-32 first leg tie.
Henderson ultimately showed a cool head and, sensing that keeping the row going any longer wasn’t going to make him, Balotelli or the club look any better, walked away from the situation.
Of course, it turned out that Henderson had been getting plenty of protection in preparation for that sort of stressful situation. That’s because he had been handed the starring role in a new commercial for Nivea Men Stress Protect deodorant.
In the ad, Henderson gets a message to his phone telling him that he and team-mates Simon Mignolet and Raheem Sterling are late. Thanks to their choice of underarm spray, the trio are able to leg it in the hope of getting to the event they are supposed to be attending sharpish.
Thankfully, Balotelli isn’t involved or he would probably insist on ambling along at his own pace.
Indeed, rather than the controversial Italian striker, the hold-up is caused by a Reliant Robin with a dodgy engine. The three players get out to give the car a bump start, still without breaking into a sweat.
