Man Utd linked with Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez
Manchester United are mulling over a move to land Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, according to Sport Bild.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the Switzerland international in the past, but those rumours largely came before the signing of England international Luke Shaw in the summer 2014 transfer window.
United boss Louis van Gaal currently finds himself short of options at left-back, with Shaw out injured, Daley Blind currently a starting centre-back and emergency full-back Ashley Young operating on the other flank.
That led to teenager Cameron Borthwick-Jackson getting his debut as understudy to Marcos Rojo last weekend.
Today’s report claims that a move for Rodriguez, aged 23, is on the cards as Van Gaal seeks to bolster his options.
By all accounts, Shaw is making rapid progress in his recovery from a broken leg, which means he shouldn’t be too far from a return to action by the time United could sign Rodriguez in January.
It is unlikely that Rodriguez would move to serve as backup, so it is difficult to see the logic in the transfer for either party.
