Anthony Martial suggests it is easier to play for Solskjaer than Mourinho
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has indicated it is easier to play caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s style of football than that demanded by his predecessor Jose Mourinho.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, Martial contrasted the differing tactics of the two men he has played under this season.
He confirmed that Solskjaer had told him personally to attack more than he was doing under Mourinho, and suggested the Norwegian’s tactics are easier to implement than those Mourinho expected of his players.
Sitting alongside his coach this afternoon, Martial told reporters: “We have got a coach who has different intentions and we are trying to do what we asks. Perhaps it is easier to play this style of football and not the style of football he [Mourinho] asked.”
The France international, aged 23, is one of several players to have been rejuvenated since Solskjaer replaced Mourinho.
A bit-part player for much of Mourinho’s reign, the ex-Monaco man is now a key member of the squad and recently signed a new long-term contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford until June 2024.
