Landon Donovan gets swine flu
Landycakes takes to his sick bed
USA star Landon Donovan has been struck down with swine flu. But since he was well enough to report this to the media himself we suspect he will be back keeping David Beckham in check before too long.
Donovan gave American xenophobes a field day by receiving his diagnosis the day after playing for the US in Mexico. But the LA Galaxy man is adamant he contracted the H1N1 virus on American soil.
He told SI: “I felt something when I got into Miami on Sunday. I just felt real bad and finally went to see the doctor. They took a swab from my nose and confirmed it, so that was that.”
Donovan then played the full 90 minutes for the US in Mexico City on Wednesday night, but was noticably struggling.
He said: “I haven’t felt that way in a game in a long time. During the game and even after the game I thought maybe it was the altitude, the heat, whatever. But even so I’ve never felt that bad. The last time I was there [at Estadio Azteca] I didn’t feel that bad. I just felt lethargic, slow. I didn’t feel normal.”
He has not ruled out playing this weekend against Seattle Sounders.
