Fraizer Campbell gives the game a boost
Fraize the Lord
Football has taken something of a battering recently. The actions of a racist moron at Anfield yesterday brought the game into disrepute, and this goes alongside players being fined and suspended from clubs for homophobic abuse on Twitter.
However, today at the Stadium of Light was a moment to genuinely savour, making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and realising exactly why we all bloody love football.
Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell came on as a substitute at half time in their FA Cup tie against rivals Middlesbrough. I was the first time the 24 year old had played since sustaining an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in August 2010, seventeen months ago.
Within fifteen minutes, Campbell had scored an equaliser with a tidy right foot finish. I don’t believe in fate or destiny, but it certainly made me smile. So thank you Fraizer, you made me believe again.
