Villarreal coach Manuel Preciado dies after 24 hours in the job
Newly appointed Villarreal boss Manuel Preciado has died of a heart attack just a day after taking up his post.
The 54-year-old had agreed to take over the recently relegated Yellow Submarine for the 2012-13 season.
Preciado had previously been in charge of Sporting Gijon. During his time their he claimed the scalp of Jose Mourinho’s nine-year unbeaten home record by defeating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
A statement released by Villarreal said: “The coach Manuel Preciado died overnight in Valencia as a result of a heart attack.
“The Cantabrian, who had been chosen by Villarreal to lead next season’s project, was 54 years old.
“Villarreal want to express their deepest sorrow at the sad loss and want to offer their condolences to his family and all his relatives.”
