Sir Alex Ferguson reveals he installed tanning booths at Manchester United to combat lack of sun
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he has beaten Manchester’s infamously grim weather by installing at tanning booth for his players.
Fergie opened up to Harvard Business School to share some of the secrets of his management success during his time at Old Trafford. And one of the things he cited was the steps he took to tackle the lack of sunshine available to his players.
In the study based on the Scot’s revelations, Sir Alex Ferguson: Managing Manchester United, authors Anita Elberse and Tom Dye write: “He [Ferguson] could talk enthusiastically about the new Vitamin D machine (which perhaps most resembled a tanning booth) in the players’ dressing room at Carrington, put there to help them counterbalance the lack of sunlight in Manchester, or his plan for the new season to give players staggered one-week breaks in the winter months to replenish their Vitamin D.”
The sound you can hear is Phil Brown furiously typing out a begging letter asking for a voluntary role within Fergie’s coaching staff.
