Coventry City fan promises hunger strike if team leaves Ricoh Arena and city
We have seen political prisoners go on hunger strike to protest against treatment or torture, but now a football fan has taken up the idea.
With Covntry City possibly having to leave their Ricoh Arena home after a dispute with the owners, it seems that they may have to potentially leave the city.
This is something that doesn’t sit well with season ticket holder Nigel Warren.
“Football and the Sky Blues are my life – I eat, drink and sleep it – so if they take my club away from the Ricoh I will not eat for the 24 hours of each and every home game,” he told the Coventry Telegraph.”
“If it’s a Saturday match I’ll begin my protest at midnight on the Friday and continue through to midnight Saturday night. It may sound silly but what Sisu (the club’s owners) and Tim Fisher are planning really hurts.”
“The fans are really annoyed and disgusted at the way we are being treated and maybe something like this will make the club sit up and listen.”
“I’d rather stay in bed all day and not eat. I love the club and will look out for the result but I won’t be going to home games if they move out of the city.”
I really hope that simply not eating for 12 hours before and after a game isn’t going to have any effect whatsoever. For a hunger strike to have a marked difference it does really need to be all the time.
