England coach Gary Neville has suggested Liverpool should leave Daniel Sturridge out of their team to face Crystal Palace at the weekend to ensure he is fit for England’s vital World Cup qualifiers.
The in-form striker came under criticism during the last international break when he pulled out of the squad and was, somewhat harshly, accused of saying that playing for the Reds was a higher priority.
In fact, he had said little more than if took care of his club form, England selection would take care of itself.
Nonetheless, Neville is clearly worried about losing Sturridge for the games against Poland and Montenegro.
In his pundit duties on Monday Night Football, the former Manchester United defender took the opportunity to float the idea that Brendan Rodgers might like to rest Sturridge at the weekend.
