Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling is pretty useless on the right
Liverpool star Raheem Sterling is being wasted on the right wing, according to statistics comparing his performances in each of his regular positions.
The England international would be better deployed on the left or in the centre, figures compiled by Oh You Beauty show.
Sterling has mainly played on the right since since December 2013, yet the stats suggest he is relatively ineffective there.
When the left and central figures are bundled together to create a close sample size of ‘on the right’ vs ‘anywhere but the right’, the evidence is even more compelling.
Sterling scores fewer goals, takes fewer shots (which are significantly less accurate), makes fewer assists and makes fewer key passes when he plays on the right compared to other positions on the pitch.
