Thanks, but no tanks

Sammy the Tammy, mascot of Dunfermline, has been condemned by police and his local MP after a pre-match stunt which saw him don a cardboard tank and pretend to shoot Raith Rovers supporters.

The mascot marched his tank to the centre circle and aimed his gun at the 2,500 fake fans while gun fire was played over the PA system.

The incident has been judged as being in particularly bad taste given that Scottish football is still reeling from the parcel bomb sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

A spokesman for Fife Police said: “We intend to take up this matter with both Dunfermline Athletic and the individual concerned.”
