We brought you the leaked photos a while back, but now Manchester City’s new away kit has been officially unveiled during an event in Hong Kong.

A black kit at night in Hong Kong? A grey jersey on a sunny afternoon in Southampton sounds positively fluorescent in comparison, doesn’t it.

The new City kit puts us in mind of the black Brazil away shirt, which was also made by Nike.

The half-and-half effect gives Blackburn fans food for thought about how their kit might look if their founders had been feeling a bit gloomy on the day they picked out the club colours.

In fact the halves are borrowed from Ardwick FC – one of City’s former guises – and the black from Gorton AFC – another previous moniker. We guess soot black was ‘in’ in Manchester in the late 1800s.

The kit also features a nice grandad collar and extended placket. Always nice to see a grandad collar on a football shirt.
