QPR’s Joey Barton asks Everton to sign him
Joey Barton has contacted his boyhood club Everton to ask them to sign him. And he offered to take a 50 per cent pay-cut to make sure the deal goes ahead.
The QPR midfielder spent last season on loan at Marseille. With a permanent move to the French side now looking unlikely, the 30-year-old contacted the Toffees to suggest they take a chance on him.
Barton’s £70,000-a-week have proven to be a stumbling block for clubs interested in signing him. But he’s told Roberto Martinez that he will happily move to Goodison Park for a, ahem, mere £35,000-a-week.
The move has been suggested to Martinez by Barton’s agent. The England international has also offered to effectively go on trial at the club to prove his fitness. Martinez is believed to be tempted by that offer.
QPR would love to shift Barton off their payroll, but Harry Redknapp is set to use him in Championship matches if he hasn’t left by the start of the new season.
