But Wenger has revealed that his only current targets are youngsters – and he claims that he is not even close to bringing any of those to the club.
He said: “We are following a few young players but we are not close to signing anybody.”
The Frenchman was speaking at his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Stoke.
He has been credited with interest in the likes of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk and Basel’s Fabian Schar as Arsenal’s January transfer targets.
The assertion that none of those signings are imminent is not likely to go down well among Arsenal fans.
