Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil tried to give Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda the eyes during his stuttering run-up to take this penalty, but they were so prominent that Mandanda easily read them.

The result was a poor spot-kick from the Germany international, which was comfortably saved by Mandanda.

Justice was probably done since the penalty was awarded for a foul on Aaron Ramsey that took place outside the box.
