When your gaffer takes the opposite stance to Arsene Wenger
Managers are often criticised for turning a blind eye to their players’ indiscrepencies and backing their team to the hilt, but this could not be levelled at Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock. The Pilgrims manager has transfer-listed midfielder Simon Walton after his sending off against Barnsley at the weekend.
Sturrock said: “I feel that after several times emphasising his petulance on the football pitch, it’s best for both parties that I put him up for transfer. I did over emphasise the situation to him. Over the last couple of games there’s been near-incidents where he could have got himself sent off and lo and behold he goes away and does it.”
Walton has also been fined two-weeks wages for the incident in which he kicked out at Barnsley’s Anderson Silva.
