Comfy footwear + fiery temperament = red card

Milan captain Gennaro Gattuso was sent-off in peculiar circumstances during their 0-4 derby defeat to Inter at the weekend. With the score still at 0-1, Gattuso took the interesting decision to carelessly haul down Samuel Eto’o just inside the penalty area.

Gattuso was booked for his efforts. He then signalled that he was injured shortly after Milan had converted the resulting penalty (although we are pretty sure the only injury he sustained was the fuse blowing in his head). All eyes turned to first-choice replacement Clarence Seedorf was was kicking back on the bench, relaxing in his flip-flops and counting down the minutes to his half-time cuppa.

Gattuso was forced to return to the field of play while Seedorf got himself ready. Once back into the heat of the midfield battle, the Italian international couldn’t resist launching himself at Wesley Sneijder’s ankles and picking up a second yellow card.
