Staggering ex-Real Madrid star denies being drunk

Besiktas midfielder Guti has been charged with drink driving after crashing his car. The former Real Madrid stalwart was involved in a head-on collision with a bus after drifting onto the wrong side of the road, but miraculously emerged unscathed after clipping the bus rather than hitting it at full pelt.

The 34-year-old then attempted to attack a cameraman as he staggered away from his car. Despite the pretty convincing evidence that he may have been ever so slightly intoxicated, Guti denies he was drunk.

He said: “I understand that here in Turkey things are exaggerated about me, but it’s a lie to say I was drunk. It was a light crash. Only broke the mirror of my car. There is no further damage.”

The crash happened at 4am on Monday morning after Guti had celebrated Besiktas’s 1-0 victory over Bursaspor on Sunday.

Guti was fined and been banned from driving for six months after being found to be five-times over the legal limit. The course of justice runs fast in Turkey!
