Veteran keeper has a ‘mare

Other than a brief and unsuccessful flirtation with Ajax, goalkeeper Sander Boschker has played for FC Twente for more than 21 years and clocked up over 500 appearances. The 40-year-old has not been their first-choice keeper this season, but on account of his service they handed him a Champions League debut against Tottenham last night.

They will now be wishing they had not bothered.

After two decades of service you might think Boschker would know ever single bobble of Twente’s pitch. Apparently not.

The hapless keeper received a harmless backpass from centre-back Peter Wisgerhof, only to give it the Paul Robinson treatment. He took a massive air-kick in the general direction of the ball as it bobbled past him and into the net.

Boschker’s blushes were spared to some extent as they emerged with a point after a pulsating 3-3 draw with Spurs.
