Down like a sacker spuds

Sunderland forward James McClean scored a cheeky opener against Arsenal after defender Per Mertesacker generously fell over.

The German defender left the field on a stretcher after the incident.

That prompted Soccer Saturday pundit Robbie Fowler – who had taken to calling the Arsenal man “Metzelder” – to say: “I hope he is seriously injured.”

We think the Liverpool legend was indicating that the defender could do with an excuse for his howler.
