Referee dislocates shoulder awarding free kick

Italian football is known for being quite mad, but yesterday saw perhaps the strangest incident for some time.

Napoli faced Novara, and the game was refereed by Daniele Doveri. Doveri only made it 26 seconds into the game before awarding a free kick, and managed to dislocate his shoulder in its award.

The game was paused for a period of 18 minutes whilst the referee was medically treated and given painkilling injections. His shoulder was put back into its socket, and the referee was able to complete the match, that Napoli eventually won 2-0.
