South Wales is experiencing a severe shortage of Elvis Presley fancy dress costumes as Swansea fans step-up to their manager’s request for a fancy dress tribute to the King.
Brendan Rodgers asked Swans supporters to don Elvis outfits for their final game of the season against Liverpool on Sunday. He touted the idea after last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United, saying it was a reference to comments made by some bookmakers at the start of the campaign that there was more chance of seeing Elvis than Swansea staying up this season.
He said: “I will be asking all the fans if they can wear as many Elvis Presley costumes as we can because when we got promoted the bookies said there was more chance of seeing Elvis Presley than us staying at this level.
“As a show of our achievement we’ll ask for them to do that.”
And it seems that the Liberty Stadium will be awash with Elvis impersonators, just like Rodgers wants.
Carol Guy, owner of Mardi Gras Fancy Dress, told the South Wales Evening Post: “There were people waiting for me to open up this morning, and I wasn’t able to have my morning coffee until midday.
“There has been a big demand for costumes, for wigs and for glasses, and it hasn’t stopped.
“We’ve had to order more in. It’s great for business, but I think Brendan Rodgers should be wearing Elvis gear as well.”
On a sidenote, Rodgers can’t have too many complaints about the bookies. Swansea’s own shirt sponsors had them as favourites to go down!
