Your whistle-stop guide to the latest Premier League arrivals

Name: Chico (Jose Manuel Flores Moreno)

Age: 25

Position: Centre-back

Signed from: Genoa

Fee: £2 million.

Did you know?
Whenever he enters the field of play, Chico crosses himself in memory of his grandfather, the man who gave him his nickname. Chico is a term of endearment which literally means ‘boy’.

What’s the deal?
The Spanish defender has become the second most expensive signing in the Swans’ history after putting singing a three-year contract.

The defender worked with new boss Michael Laudrup on loan at Mallorca last season. He cost €4 million when Genoa signed him from Almeria in 2010, but his stint at Mallorca was the closest he has come in his career so far to establishing himself as a starter. He won plaudits for his role in the Balearic side’s tight defence.

What do they say?

“Being brought up in Spain, I have the same culture of possession and passing football. I like to play from the back, come forward with the ball, and add to the possession game.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I have been studying Swansea on the internet and I know I am joining a club with passionate supporters who are very close to the players.”

“The marking of Chico was obsessive. It was crazy.”
