Investigators hired by Tottenham to help their bid for the Olympic Stadium have been charged with fraud over allegations that they illegally obtained the private phone records of West Ham director Karren Brady.

Howard Hill, aged 58, was a senior investigator at forensic accountants PKF at the time to which the allegations relate. PKF were contracted by Spurs to carry out investigation work in support of their stadium bid.

Hill, who quit his job in December 2011, was arrested in January after Brady and directors of the Olympic Park Legacy Company alleged that somebody had accessed their phone records and other documents, which were then passed to the Sunday Times.

He was among six men arrested as part of the investigation. Two of those arrested remain on bail, while two others have been released from bail.

A Metropolitan Police statement read: “Howard Hill, 58, no occupation given, of Cheshire, appears on bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 28 November charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit fraud by misrepresentation (Fraud Act 2006), contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

“Lee Stewart, 39, no occupation given, of Surrey appears on bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 28 November charged with one count of conspiracy to commit fraud by misrepresentation (Fraud Act 2006), contrary to section 1 (1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.”

The men will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 28.
