The recent train crash in Spain has been an absolutely horrific incident, causing the loss of 80 lives and injuries to scores of others. It all appears to have been caused by a driver going too fast going through a tunnel, and Spain has held three days of national mourning after the accident.

Whilst many have donated to charity to help those affected, Cristiano Ronaldo pleaded for people to donate much-needed blood, donating himself and asking others to follow his lead.

The Real Madrid star, linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, also took to Twitter to champion the cause:

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the news of the accident of train in Spain. #animogalicia”

“I sympathise with the victims and ask them to contribute in helping the wounded by local authorities. #animogalicia”
