Tottenham new boy Roberto Soldado is targeting 20 goals in his first season in the Premier League – and hopes his tally will fire the club into the Champions League.

The Spaniard found the net on his debut against Espanyol last weekend and is hoping to carry his goalscoring touch into Spurs’ Premier League campaign.

On the magic 20-goal figure, he said: “I have tried to score [20 goals a season] and every time I have done it, and this season I am going to try my best from the first day to get back to scoring because they signed me for this reason – to score goals and I hope to repay all the faith that everyone has put in me.”

He added: “Our objective is to qualify for the Champions League and we are going to do everything we can to try to do it. I hope we can finish as high as possible.”
