1. The loan system strikes again! Fabio Borini managed exactly what his Liverpool team-mates couldn’t do last week by beating Newcastle.

2. Despite the derby win and a jump to a whopping four points, we would advise Sunderland fans to ensure a period of reflection before getting any Gus Poyet or Fabio Borini tattoos.

3. Joe Hart has reached a new low: the Manchester City goalkeeper managed to out-blunder Fernando Torres.

4. There’s little point in engaging in another ‘is he back to his best?’ debate, but Torres is definitely showing signs of considerable improvement under Jose Mourinho.

5. Little Pea was the order of the weekend at Old Trafford – and that was just David Moyes’ bladder’s reaction to Manchester United’s comeback at home to Stoke.

6. Luis Suarez demonstrated that having enough of a brass neck to demand to leave your club before reestablishing yourself as a terrace favourite also allows you to score headers from the edge of the box.

7. The SAS partnership continues to thrive – and in style. Suarez’s hat-trick was good, Daniel Sturridge’s chipped goal was sumptuous.

8. Arsenal midfielder Mike Arteta can feel hard done by. History teaches us that a foul on Marouane Chamamkh can never truly be considered a clear goalscoring opportunity.

9. Romelu Lukaku beat Christian Benteke in the battle of the Belgian strikers. And the excellent Tim Howard beat Brad Guzan in the battle of the American keepers. All of this means Everton somehow got a result at Aston Villa.

10. Leroy Fer: he’s Fer by name, but not necessarily fair by nature.
