1. Liverpool fans were forced to remember that Luis Suarez couldn’t always singlehandedly dig them out of a hole before he had Daniel Sturridge to help out.

2. Defeat at Upton Park proved to be a Hammer blow for Martin Jol’s Fulham career. Defeat at Sam Allardyce’s striker-less West Ham was clearly the final straw as far as Shahid Khan was concerned.

3. Tony Pulis’ six months off were not spent plotting a new wardrobe: the baseball cap it back at Crystal Palace.

4. After Steve Bruce’s moans about how difficult it is to bring top quality strikers to a newly promoted side, it turns out Hull just needed Martin Skrtel to bolster their attack.

5. Manchester United’s wall proved to be more of a volleyball net as Kyle Walker gave Spurs the lead against them.

6. Undoubtedly the saddest observation of the weekend is that occasional Southampton keeper Paulo Gazzaniga appears to have chopped off his rat-tail.

7. We’re not expecting Gerard Deulofeu to look back after finding the net for Everton on his first Premier League start.

8. Emanuele Giaccherini thinks a trip to the Championship is just what Sunderland need.

9. Suddenly finding your goalscoring form can often be attributed to rolling up your sleeves, but rarely as literally as in the case of Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini. As promised, the Frenchman opted not to take a pair of scissors to his match shirt against Cardiff, simply rolled the sleeves up and found the net.

10. The Aaron Ramsey Backslapping Society would like to declare its first annual convention an unmitigated success. Goals were scored, celebrations were avoided, mutual respect was the order of the day and a good time was had by all.
