1. Liverpool have learned how cruel the festive period can be, particularly in this very tight Premier League season. Top at Christmas, fifth going into the new year.

2. Luis Suarez is the little boy that cried penalty. After a clear foul by Samuel Eto’o, the Liverpool striker didn’t get a spot-kick. You can’t help but feel his reputation preceded him.

3. It was 1-0 to the Arsenal at Newcastle. They ground out the sort of win they would have probably allowed to be a draw in recent seasons.

4. All those Six and the City puns don’t seem quite as sexy when it’s Hull City vs Fulham.

5. Tom Huddlestone gets a well deserved haircut after finding he net. Danny Graham doesn’t score even when the goals are flowing.

6. Just a couple of weeks late for the Christmas party, Joe Hart has perfected his Rocky Balboa fancy dress.

7. No longer does Danny Welbeck need to be stuck on the wing out of harm’s way – his extra shooting practice is paying dividends for Manchester United.

8. Even Vincent Tan is reduced to booing Cardiff.

9. Simon Mignolet appears to have got a pair of floppy wrists for Christmas. He followed up his howler against Manchester City with a weak attempt to stop Samuel Eto’o’s winner.

10. Every silver lining has a cloud for Jose Mourinho. Yes, he got three points against Liverpool, but he must be furious that one of his strikers scored the winner on the cusp of the transfer window.
