Every football fan will know the basics about their favourite club. In all likelihood, they will know about the year the team was founded, what division they play in and where they finished in the league last season. However, there is a lot more to football teams than that, as many have histories which span decades or, in some cases, a whole century.

Superbrains who seek to be something of an unofficial club historian will need to look at every single facet of the club’s history, but what else will they need to become a font of knowledge for their team, in case they want to play a quiz like how well do you know your team from Ladbrokes? An ability to retain stats is essential, no matter how trivial they may seem at first glance.

Remember him?

Aside from stat retention, you might need to buy a few books or read a few websites dedicated to certain chapters of your team’s history. If, for example, you’re a Hull City fan, learning about your most recent promotion to the third tier would be handy, as it acted as a starting point from where the club’s standing grew to become potential Premier League mainstays.

Reading match reports could be handy in attempting to become a football superbrain. Aside from remembering who scored, paying attention to assists, possession and red cards can help. Remembering key players from different seasons could be important as well, as they could one day be revered as club legends, so knowing why they did will make you seem like you know the answer.

Become a regular

Though it might seem expensive nowadays, going to a few games or even buying a season ticket is imperative, but why? There are only so many times that your team’s games get shown live, while you can’t gauge a whole performance from highlights on Match of the Day! Going to a few matches at home or away will show how good or bad your players are and what the general mood of fans is.
